Verizon Wireless welcomes excited visitors to its Santa Monica Verizon Destination Store located at the Third Street Promenade. The brand brings its supersized, hands-on, lifestyle shopping approach to the West Coast. Inside the historic Woolworth Building, the 7,700 sq. ft. retail experience boasts energy efficient fixtures and sustainable, environmentally friendly materials that give it a distinct Southern California vibe.
Verizon Destination Stores are unique experiences, much larger and more interactive than their typical stores. “For our customers, there’s simply no other retail shopping experience like this in any industry,” says Luis Cruz, Verizon’s Southern California president. We certainly agree.
The Santa Monica Verizon Destination Store is the fifth in the country. The first, open in 2013, is in Minnesota’s Mall of America. Chicago, Houston and Boston are also home to destination stores. Like the other four other stores, the Santa Monica location employs a hands-on, interactive, “lifestyle zone” retail strategy. This store is unique in several ways:
The Customize It Zone features a Hollywood-themed selfie booth. Take a selfie next to the Hollywood sign and create a custom phone case on the fly. Choose colors and pictures using tablet apps at the “Customize it” bar. Verizon produces the custom phone case on site and delivers it to you via a curvy, two-story pneumatic tube. The large-scale wall mural in the store is created with over 1,600 “Customize It” cellphone cases and features local imagery.
The Get Fit Zone offers an interactive soccer experience. Practice shots with a ball that syncs to your smartphone and provides instant feedback on speed, spin, estimated distance, and skill tips. Shoppers test fitness accessories that measure endurance while peddling a stationary bike that’s linked to Google maps. Riders input an address, start pedaling and experience Street View during the ride. A detailed readout of calories burned, distance traveled and other stats make for a smart, in-store workout.
Shoppers experience first-hand what it’s like to run back a professional kick-off in an NFL Virtual Reality Experience. Shoppers put on VR goggles as an oversized football helmet lowers in place. “Players” experience the kick-off and a professional “tackle” as the VR platform floor rumbles!
Get your hands on the latest smart home technology at the Home and on the Go Zone. Use a smartphone or tablet to open and close garage doors, lock doors, or set a thermostat. Demo the newest home security and net cam technology that senses unexpected movements, fire, water, or even CO2 levels. Your home assesses the situation and sends you a text!
The Santa Monica Verizon Destination Store also includes southern California versions of popular engagements at other destination stores:
Shoppers play one of three preset digital games alone or compete against a friend. The games are played in front of an Interactive Video Wall of 80 HD projection cubes, IR sensors and high output directional speakers. This not your Dad’s video game experience!
The Amplify It Zone is for music lovers. It features an interactive DJ mixing board where customers mix their own beats and videos; solo or with band members. Looped videos are synced to the music tracks, downloaded and displayed on an array of nine 46” monitors.
The Wall of Sound includes 144 Bluetooth speakers from 4 different manufactures arrayed in a pattern of a Pacific Wave. The speakers are digitally linked to play a unique audio experience.
The Have Fun Zone offers a variety of digital toys for kids (and adults) to try. Custom surfboard displays feature Go Pro cameras while the kids bed room vignette features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi game controllers.
The Anywhere Business Zone is where business owners and entrepreneurs work with Verizon’s business solutions experts. The space is the same design as a Santa Monica skate shop with authentic skate culture products and graphics and features custom metal finishes and wood laminates.
Along with the many interactives, games and fun, the Santa Monica Verizon Destination Store also offers Wireless Workshops for technology tutorials for both business and personal use.
The primary feature of the first floor is the Interactive Device Wall that showcases the entire offering of Verizon phones. Each phone is paired with a wall of 46” touchscreen monitors where guests compare phone features. The device wall is made of custom, solid surface materials, custom glass and metal bezel. Cabinetry below the interactive device wall includes inventory drawers that are secured with unique IR sensor locks.
Strategically placed throughout the store are custom tables with charging bars as well as custom charging benches. Guests relax, try apps and surf the web with access to phone charging ports. Secure phone charging lockers are also offered at the Power Store Wall where customers can shop a wide variety of colorful and inexpensive phone and tablet charging products.
The second floor Immersive Home Experience Zone is a series of home vignettes; a garage, kitchen and living room. Shoppers try out Verizon Home Service products such as VOIP and Fios.
Luis Cruz adds, “From the innovative use of technology to create memorable, hands-on experiences, to the aesthetically pleasing design choices and artwork, our Santa Monica Verizon Destination Store offers an engaging experience that’s sure to remind locals of the unique character of the community we share.”
