Waka Waka Brings Ebola Awareness to CES

Waka Waka is a mission-driven company that develops, manufactures and markets high-tech low-cost solar powered lamps and chargers. Literally, lifesaver products both in the developing world and in developed markets. Waka Waka’s success is fueled by one of the most successful crowdfunding efforts in history—a model that the company takes to CES in a big way. The brand launches the first-ever LIVE crowdfunding effort right on the show floor.

CES attendees are invited to support the effort to bring aid to areas stricken with Ebola. The rare and deadly 2014 epidemic is the largest in history and affects multiple countries in West Africa. In an exclusive partnership with crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, WakaWaka accepts CES attendee donations on-site. Funders access a series of rewards as well as a quick bite—the experience features celebrity chef, Eric Greenspan, who serves up grilled cheese sandwich snacks.

Waka Waka is named 2015 International CES Innovation Award Honoree for its products Waka Waka Power+ and Waka Waka Base. Power+ is a durable, lightweight and compact solar powered charger and light. Base is a compact portable solar power kit. A panel of judges, independent designers, engineers and trade media, honor those with outstanding, innovative design and engineering in consumer technology products. Honoree award winners are displayed at CES Tech West in the Innovation Awards Showcase.

Eric Greenspan
is profiled by The New York Times, Wine Spectator, Art Culinaire, Los Angeles Confidential, Angeleno, and Los Angeles Magazine.
